Design Notes

In my design of Gatsby, I wanted to play with darkness on a stage that I am used to seeing fully lit. Unexpectedly, a week prior to tech, the Stadium received a major upgrade to its front of house lighting with a transition to completely LED, color-controlled front lighting. This allowed me to play significantly with the way that color hits not only the set but also the actors. I knew from the beginning of the design process that I wanted the iconic green light to hit the actors from the audience so that we can feel Daisy’s yearning. It all came together deliciously.
